Heyo, I’m Daniel Klug and I’m a Systems Scientist at the Institute for Software Research at Carnegie Mellon University.

I hold a PhD in Media Studies from the University of Basel (2012) and a Master in Sociology from the University of Vienna (2008).


My areas of research are Qualitative Methods in Social Computing, Human-Computer Interaction, and Open Source Software Communities.


I’m also together with an interdisciplinary team working on the final stages of  TRAVIS GO, a web-application for simple and collaborative annotation of audio and video material.

Previously, I was a Research Assistant at the Seminar for Media Studies at the University of Basel, Switzerland (2012 – 2018) where I was researching and teaching media sociology and popular culture analysis (reality TV, music videos, celebrity culture, computer-based analysis of audiovisual media).
